Founded by Rob Allen, a Director/DP with decades of experience, Red Lizard offers a talented team with diverse backgrounds in TV, film, and live events. We assess each project’s needs and bring in the resources to deliver top-quality results, without the overhead of a large production company. From creative development to post-production, we provide full-service solutions. Our extensive nationwide crew network and collaborations with directors and DPs from various genres ensure versatility and excellence. Since 1994, our commitment to quality has kept us at the forefront.
The Early Years
After earning his Bachelor of Science from the University of Florida and honing his skills at WUFT, Rob joined West Coast Optical’s video department, producing local commercials and corporate training videos. His career took an exciting turn filming aerial footage for boat manufacturers. He even survived a helicopter crash while shooting for Donzi Boats in the early ’90s.
This experience led Rob to co-found Cypress Productions, where he transitioned from local to national commercial work. He shot global campaigns for MTV, featuring icons like the Rolling Stones and Aerosmith, the Beastie Boys, and Guns N’ Roses. Rob also collaborated with original MTV VJs including Dan Cortez, Daisy Fuentes, Bill Bellamy, and Pauly Shore.
The Expansion Years
Rob’s career expanded further into varied genres including Indie films, sports events with ESPN, the X-Games, and The Daily Show, working alongside Jon Stewart, Steve Carell, and Stephen Colbert. He has directed national commercials, produced promotional content for CNN, and worked on Disney and HBO episodic productions.
His diverse portfolio also includes culinary shoots with Wolfgang Puck, infomercials with personalities like Tony Little, and automotive events such as Barrett-Jackson’s “World’s Greatest Collector Car Auctions”.
Rob has also partnered with major clients like PepsiCo and Jabil. Along the way he has garnered Telly Awards for Cinematography, and Addy Awards for Best of Broadcast.
Rob has been fortunate enough to shoot across the globe, including at home in the U.S. and throughout Mexico, Canada, China, Italy, Spain, Japan, Greece, Turkey, and Brazil to name a few.
Today, Rob delivers exceptional content to clients worldwide, operating high-end Red and Alexa camera packages and lenses. From aerial challenges to global productions, his journey is marked by a constant pursuit of excellence.
